Cooked Nearby

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2 July 2026

This policy explains how Cooked Nearby handles your personal data in line with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Cooked Nearby is the data controller for the personal data described here.

Data we collect

  • Account email address (used for passwordless magic-link sign-in)
  • Phone numbers, for verification of makers and reviewers
  • Maker profile details you provide (business name, bio, postcode, photos, menu)
  • Reviews and any optional review photos you submit
  • Waitlist email and postcode, if you ask to be notified when cooks join your area
  • Anonymous, aggregated counts of profile views and contact clicks

How we use your data

We use your data to operate the directory: to show maker profiles to buyers, verify phone numbers to reduce fraud and fake reviews, respond to enquiries, and notify waitlist subscribers. Our lawful bases are our legitimate interest in running the platform and your consent where you provide it (for example, joining the waitlist). We do not sell your personal data. A maker's contact details are shown on their public profile so buyers can reach them directly.

Service providers

We share limited data with trusted processors who help us run the service: hosting and database (Supabase and Vercel), phone verification (Twilio), and maps and geocoding (Mapbox). These providers process data only on our instructions.

Cookies & local storage

We use essential cookies for sign-in sessions. Your saved (favourite) makers are stored locally in your browser on your device — not on our servers — unless you are signed in, in which case they are also synced to your account so cooks can see follower counts.

Retention

We keep personal data only as long as needed to provide the service or meet legal obligations. You can delete your maker profile from your dashboard at any time.

Your rights (UK GDPR)

You have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data, and to object to processing or withdraw consent. To exercise these rights, contact us at hello@cookednearby.com. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
